The keyword search is an exact search - results contain all the search terms. The thematic and proximity searches use different methods to find connections based on keywords.
The keyword search is returning results that are all relevant, but it does not have the 'intuition' - you must know exactly what you are searching for.
The thematic and proximity searches are more far-fetched, but their methods will succeed at finding sources that may be very difficult to find using a keyword search.
Thematic search is subject-specific related to the search terms. Proximity search evaluates data in terms of proximity (such as time) between different sets related to the keywords. Most of the time all three search types will return very different results.
